NVMe SSDs: Adata withdraws firmware update for Gammix S70 (Blade)

Apparently there are currently problems with firmware updates for the NVMe SSDs Adata XPG Gammix S70 and Adata XPG Gammix S70 Blade. In the meantime, several users have spoken in the ComputerBase forum whose SSD was no longer recognized by the system after the update. Versions with firmware 3.2.F.P7 are affected.

New firmware for more performance

At the end of July, Adata released firmware 3.2.9.1 for the Gammix S70, which significantly improves performance when the SSD is more than 50 percent full with user data.

Readers report problems

In the comment thread for the news about the new firmware, however, two users have now reported for whom the update resulted in the Gammix S70 or its sister model, the Gammix S70 Blade, no longer being recognized by the system. According to the tools, firmware 3.2.F.P7 was available in both cases before the update. For other users who switched from version 3.2.7.3 to the new 3.2.9.1, the update succeeded without such problems. Apparently, variants of the said SSDs with firmware 3.2.F.P7 are affected .

Update was withdrawn

After contacting the manufacturer's support, another user was advised not to update until the problem was resolved. The new firmware for the Gammix S70 is no longer available on the Adata download pages and has therefore been withdrawn. The product pages for the Gammix S70 Blade are currently not available.

The editors have contacted Adata and asked for an opinion on the problem.

Until the case has been clarified, owners of the Adata XPG Gammix S70 and Adata XPG Gammix S70 Blade are not advised to perform a firmware update if this is still offered via the manufacturer's tool. Anyway, a firmware update is always associated with a certain risk and should only be carried out if it is necessary.

The editorial team thanks the community members “dannubra”, ” leorphee “,” ChrisKenobi “,” qach “and” Halaster “for the information about the problem.
