If you've been thinking about deleting Facebook for a while, but were prevented from doing so because you were afraid you'd lose all the data from the past few years, now there may be some good news. In a blog post, Facebook announced that they have been working on the Transfer Your Information tool in recent months, which makes transferring your own data to another service a lot easier. That makes it a lot more attractive to (finally?) cancel your Facebook account.
Improved Facebook Transfer Your Information tool: more services
First of all, the tool supports two new services, namely Photobucket and Google Calendar. That means you can export all your photos from Facebook to Photobucket. The support of Google Calendar is especially useful for Facebook events, which can now also be transferred for the first time. The tool already supports Google Docs, Google Photos, Blogger, Backblaze B2, WordPress, Koofr and Dropbox.
In addition to the new features, the functioning of the tool has also been simplified and improved. According to Facebook, it is now easier to see which type of data and which services are supported. You can now also transfer multiple types of data to one service at the same time. Think, for example, of transferring messages and notes to Google Docs. Finally, there are new filter options and you can view the current status of the transfer.
Unfortunately, it is not yet possible for Apple users to easily transfer data to, for example, iCloud. In any case, the improvements in the transfer tool make it easier to cancel your Facebook account, because there is more choice where you want to place your data and therefore there is less chance of data loss.
The updated Facebook Transfer Your Information tool will be rolled out in the near future. You can use the tool via this link.
