A brief review of 5 turbulent years

On August 9, 2016, No Man & apos; s Sky was released for the first time for the PlayStation 4, the European launch followed a day later and the PC version was launched a few days later. The title can be roughly described as a mixture of space simulation and survival game, the flagship of which is the procedurally generated planets with different flora and fauna.

The major project of the then unknown indie studio Hello Games had teething problems. The problems with the PC port were the lesser of two evils, because the criticism of the scope of the game was much greater. Because much of the previously promised content was simply missing. Disappointed players turned their backs on the game and there was a real wave of returns. The loud protest even led to investigations into misleading advertising, which, however, did not result in any consequences.

The team continued work. The first updates brought, among other things, elements such as base construction, freighter and the survival mode or, with “Atlas Rises”, a story and a first version of the missing multiplayer mode. In 2018, “Next” was followed by a huge update including a real multiplayer mode and the version for the Xbox One. With discount campaigns and other updates, including underwater worlds and online multiplayer, the disappointments were almost forgotten.

There were many new and, above all, free expansions below who last saw the Prisms update to version 3.5.

A summary from the boss

Sean Murray, the founder of Hello Games, also looks back on the journey of No Man & apos; s Sky and sees a turning point in the Next update from 2018. However, Murray does not go into the first few weeks after the publication, in which he was in the hail of criticism.
