Abroad. The African immigrant set fire to the cathedral in Nantes last year when he was angry that he was not allowed to stay in France. However, he remained in the country – and now he has been arrested for murdering a Catholic priest who felt sorry for him and gave him housing.

The 40-year-old African, who comes from Rwanda, went into a police station in western France on Monday and admitted that he had murdered a priest.

The body of the murdered priest was then found in Saint-Laurent-sur-Sevre in the Vendee region, writes Reuters.

This is the same African who a year ago admitted that he was the one who had set fire to the cathedral in Nantes, which Fria Tider wrote about then.

The fire received a great deal of international attention. More than 100 firefighters helped put it out, and among other things, an organ from the 1620s and stained glass windows from the 15th century were destroyed by the flames.

The African had worked in the church and had expressed anger before the fire that his residence permit was about to expire.

The murdered priest is named Olivier Maire, according to Reuters. He had felt empathy for the African and let him stay with him.

“How could this man still remain in France?” asks Senator Bruno Retailleau on Twitter.
