Audi is working hard to fine-tune its electric prototype equipped with the RS Q range extender and -tron in view of the Dakar 2022 appointment that the brand aims to win, also thanks to a team made up of pilots of great depth. The German carmaker said it had completed 8 days of testing in the heat of Spain (near Zaragoza), tackling very tough tracks on dirt tracks. All three crews took part in these tests: St & eacute; phane Peterhansel and his co-driver Edouard Boulanger, Mattias Ekstr & ouml; m with Emil Bergkvist and Carlos Sainz with Lucas Cruz.
The feelings in the end were positive. According to Audi, all three drivers were impressed by the handling and reliability; of the prototype. On dirt tracks up to 17 kilometers long, the Audi RS Q e-tron reached a speed; maximum speed of 180 km/h . The 34 degrees of temperature put a strain on the vehicle's complex cooling system.
Rehearsals will now continue in September. The prototype will face & agrave; for the first time the sand dunes of the desert.
SOPHISTICATED TECHNIQUE 
The Audi RS Q e-tron prototype features a very sophisticated powertrain. We have three electric motors derived from the experience of the brand in Formula E. Two, one per axle, will take care of the traction, while the third power unit will operate; as a generator to help recharge the 50 kWh battery .
Speaking of the accumulator, Audi has worked to develop it internally. In any case, during the races it will be; recharged through a range extender, a four-cylinder TFSI turbo with direct injection derived from the one used in the DTM, the German Touring Championship. This motor only powers the battery and does not provide wheel traction in any way. The maximum power of the vehicle system reaches 680 hp (500 kW) .
The development and management of the electric prototype will be handled by the Q Motorsport team together with Audi Sport .
