WeatherPro gets widgets: first major update since 2016

In 2016, the makers for WeatherPro last released a serious update to the app. Back then, the app featured iOS 10 updates, including rich notifications. Only bugs have been fixed and other issues ironed out since then, but no new features came. Until today. The makers have added widgets, one of the major innovations of iOS 14. Still, it could indicate that the plug will soon be pulled out of the app.

WeatherPro widgets

< p>In version 4.9.3 you will find the new widget formats of iOS 14, with a slightly different design than usual. You can choose from a medium format in two variants: updates per hour or per day. There are no other new functions. When setting up the widgets, we noticed that you can automatically choose your current location, but that Berlin was initially chosen. By manually setting your location to Amsterdam or another Dutch or Belgian city, you will see the correct info.

Notify the creators on the App Store:

Introducing a new iOS14 widget with options to daily or hourly forecasts. Let us know your feedback and what else you would like to see in future iOS14 widgets.

Whether it makes sense to pass on your suggestions is highly questionable, however, as the team no longer seems to be actively working on the app. Version 5.0 was announced years ago, but since then only the Android version has been updated (now 5.6.6) while the iOS version has had to make do with bug fixes. After WeatherPro came into the hands of the American company DTN, the plan was to stop using the app. All functions would be included in a new app to be developed, which is still not available. Work would be done on bringing back the Apple Watch functionality.

Many users will have switched to other weather apps by now. In our list of weather apps for iPhone, you'll find alternatives, including Carrot Weather – that weél is very actively maintained.
