Politics. The number of fatalities in the first seven months of this year is the same as for the same period last year. It appears from the official statistics of the police.

In May this year, Interior Minister Mikael Damberg (S) claimed that the number of shootings in Sweden has fallen sharply in the first four months of the year.
– When we sum up the first third of this year, so we see that the shootings have decreased by almost 40 percent compared to last year. That is good and it is important, because it increases security, he said then.
But the number killed this year is now as many as last year. 25 people were shot dead in Sweden from the first of January to the end of July this year – as many as during the same period last year.
One of the explanations for this is that sixteen people were shot dead from May to July this year, after Damberg's proposal, compared to only six people in the same months last year.
The number of reported shootings in the first seven months of the year – 180 – is also more than for the corresponding months in the record year 2018 when 45 people were shot dead.
