With the EliteMini HX90, Minisforum offers a potent mini PC in NUC size that is based on a fast AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX (test). In addition to the 45 watt APU with eight Cezanne cores based on Zen 3, up to 32 GB of RAM are possible, depending on the configuration. The barebone version without any memory is cheaper.
45-watt APU with lots of features in a small format
Minisforum brings AMD's top SKU from the mobile Ryzen portfolio with eight cores, the Ryzen 9, in a 2.2-liter case, which is numbered by the manufacturer with dimensions of 195 × 190 × 60 mm (L × W × H) 5900HX under. According to the Minisforum, the first own Mini-PC with a processor from AMD's Ryzen 5000H series starts under the name EliteMini HX90 and relies on one of the currently fastest mobile CPUs. The model has eight CPU cores, masters SMT for 16 threads and reaches clock frequencies of up to 4.6 GHz. In addition, the processor has an integrated Radeon Vega graphics unit of the Vega8 type with eight compute units that clock at up to 2,100 MHz.

The Ryzen 9 5900HX runs in the EliteMini HX90 with a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 45 watts. Minisforum installs a small CPU cooler with an axial fan that draws in fresh air through openings in the housing. Liquid metal between processor and cooler improves heat transfer.
Up to three SSDs are possible
There are two slots on the mainboard for RAM, in which modules in the form factor SO-DIMM with a capacity of up to 32 GB can be installed (a maximum of 64 GB DDR4-3200). The primary mass storage device in the PC system is an M.2 SSD connected via PCI Express 3.0 x4 with a typical length of 80 mm on the PCB.


A Wi-Fi 6 module from Intel (AX200) is installed in another M.2-2230 slot ex works. In the lower part of the EliteMini HX90 there are also two bays for drives in the form factor 2.5 inches with a maximum height of 7 mm.
Four Video outputs are available
The EliteMini HX90 is not stingy with connections despite the small dimensions of the case. In addition to 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, the Mini-PC can also offer six USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 GBit/s, formerly called USB 3.0). Four Ultra HD monitors (3840 × 2160 pixels) can each be operated with two HDMI 2.0 connections and DisplayPorts 1.2 at 60 Hertz. There is an obligatory jack socket for headphones and a microphone.
Pre-orderers receive a discount
The barebone version of the EliteMini HX90 without SSD and RAM costs 749 US dollars in the Minisforum shop; the manufacturer charges 1,009 US dollars for the best configuration with factory-installed 32 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD. Excluding taxes, this equates to around 633 euros or around 853 euros. Shipping from Hong Kong is free, but import sales tax of 19 percent is due for imports into Germany. Delivery is scheduled to begin in mid-September 2021. All models can be pre-ordered now, with Minisforum granting early decision-makers a price reduction of 100 US dollars.
