Lars-Öivind Knutsen is in Greenland to research walruses.
He was sleeping peacefully when a polar bear roamed into his cabin and went to attack.
– I woke up from a bang and looked up at a polar bear's head, Knutsen says to Deep Sea Reporter.
Lars-Öivind Knutsen started screaming loudly so that the polar bear backed away. After that, however, it went on a renewed attack – the animal bit him in the hand and tried to drag him through the window.
Then Knutsen's two colleagues woke up and came to the rescue. They threw a broom at the polar bear and then fired a signal pistol, which scared the predator away.
– It is much more aggressive than other polar bears I have met, Knutsen says to the news agency TT.
Lars -Öivind Knutsen is said to be fine under the circumstances, but had to be flown to Iceland to receive treatment for his injuries to his hand.
