iMazing recognizes Pegasus spyware on your iPhone

Pegasus Detection in iMazing

The Pegasus spyware has been in the news a lot lately. A vulnerability in iOS allowed iPhone users to be eavesdropped, with malicious parties targeting journalists, activists and politicians. Amnesty International released the Mobile Verification Tool that lets you check if your iPhone is infected with Pegasus, but it's quite complicated for regular users. You have to get code from GitHub and compile it yourself. iMazing now has a more accessible solution that uses the same detection method and can be found in the iMazing software. It is free to use.

iMazing's Spyware Detection Tool is available in version 2.14 and is based on Amnesty International's official toolkit. The main difference is that all you have to do is press a button. You can then detect traces of spyware, including Pegasus. Of course, you don't want a company to steal your data after all. The necessary analysis of data therefore takes place entirely locally. Good to know: the tool can recognize the Pegasus spyware, but it cannot stop or solve it.

iMazing is a bundle with all kinds of tools for your iPhone and iPad. The Pegasus tool is included in iMazing 2.14 for macOS and Windows. You connect the iPhone to the computer and then start the Spyware Detection. If you want to know more, there is an extensive blogpost from iMazing about the new feature.

from Pegasus depends on whether you are an interesting target for secret services and governments. This may be the case, for example, if you are a human rights activist or involved in a political case as a lawyer. To be able to eavesdrop on an iPhone, the malicious party has to put in a lot of effort, so it only pays if you can find compromising information. iMazing therefore emphasizes that panic is not really necessary, because the vast majority of iPhone users are not at risk. However, the company received a lot of requests from users and many people are not tech-savvy enough to use command line tools.

You can also use the spyware detection in the free demo version of the iMazing software, so no purchase is necessary.
