Leonie's wounded body was found dumped by a tree in the Donaustadt district of Vienna on June 26.

The night before, she had been tricked into an apartment where she is said to have been gang rape of four Afghans. The Afghans are said to have bragged about gang rape to others afterwards.

Three Afghans, aged 16, 18 and 25, have previously been arrested for the murder. A fourth, 22-year-old Afghan, however, managed to escape from Austria and was internationally wanted.

The police suspected that he had fled to Italy, but the 22-year-old was arrested in London on Thursday.

All four Afghans stayed in Austria illegally despite having their asylum applications rejected.

The now arrested 22-year-old had been reported to the police on six different occasions since 2016 on suspicion of crimes such as assault, drug offenses and receiving. . He was released from prison in early 2021 after serving a nine-month sentence.

Leonie's mother, Melanie, previously reacted strongly to this in an interview with Heute.

– Why was the guy still in the country? Where were the politicians? Why was he not expelled? she said.

Leonie's family will file a lawsuit against the state, citing that the 13-year-old's death could have been avoided if the Afghans had been deported as they should be.
