Precisely for this reason, the Renault Group has signed a supply contract with Vulcan Energy , a company specializing in the production of lithium. The agreement will have a duration of 5 years, with the possibility; to be renewed by mutual agreement. The first supplies will begin in 2026. According to the announcement, the French will purchase from Vulcan Energy 6,000 to 17,000 tons of lithium per year.
To highlight a very important aspect of this agreement: Vulcan Energy will produce; lithium for batteriesusing renewable and geothermal energy . Thanks to this technical solution, which allows to reduce the carbon and water footprint of lithium in the production phase, the Renault Group will be able to; avoid emitting 300 to 700 kg of CO2 per 50 kWh battery.
