According to rumors, the Surface Duo 2 will be presented next month or the month after next. The fact that Microsoft has now also opted for a significant price reduction for the 1st generation in Germany is fueling the rumors of a soon-to-be successor. Instead of 1,549 euros, the Surface Duo now costs 774 euros.
With a significant discount of 50 percent, Microsoft is currently trying to move interested parties towards the first Surface Duo. Since the German market launch in February of this year, the company had stuck to the original price recommendation of 1,549 euros (128 GB) and 1,649 euros (256 GB), while discounts have been advertised in the USA for a long time. Most recently there was a glaring gap between the two markets of 650 US dollars in the USA (before taxes) and the equivalent of 1,550 US dollars (net) in Germany.
In the German Microsoft Store, the 128 GB model now only costs 774 euros and the 256 GB version 824 euros. Microsoft has not only reduced the price by half, but also reduced the surcharge for twice as much memory by 50 percent from 100 euros to 50 euros. There is no time-limited discount campaign for the 50 percent discount in the online shop, although the old prices are still displayed, but crossed out.
Surface Duo 2 with 5G and NFC expected
The successor to the Surface Duo is to be presented in September or October with significantly upgraded hardware including functions such as 5G and NFC, after the 1st generation disappointed only measured on the data sheet and in relation to the price. Microsoft wanted to differentiate itself more about the form factor and the software running on it.
For the Surface Duo 2, the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 including 5G support, a triple camera with a clearly protruding module on the back and the support of NFC for paying with smartphone have been named. The form factor should be the same over a large area, but the USB Type-C socket should move away from the hinge and centrally to the bottom of the right half. The power button and fingerprint sensor should also merge into one unit. When choosing colors, there should be a black model in addition to the well-known light gray.

On the whole, however, significant adjustments such as frameless panels are not to be expected in this area.
