Athlete Daniel Ståhl took gold in discus with a throw of 68.90 meters. Ståhl was tipped to take gold.
– I'm a Swedish Viking, Ståhl roared after the winning throw.
The silver also went to Sweden unexpectedly when Simon Pettersson threw 67.39 in the penultimate cast. The bronze went to the Austrian Lukas Weißhaidinger.
The Swedish women's national football team is also expected to win an Olympic medal. On Monday, the Swedes will face Australia in the semifinals.
