The law on “care that can not stand” came into force in the summer of 2013. It was part of the immigration policy agreement that the then bourgeois government concluded with the Green Party in the spring of 2011. The purpose was to increase immigration to Sweden after that the Sweden Democrats entered the Riksdag in the autumn of 2010.
– The effect of SD was that we got a policy in the opposite direction, Reinfeldt commented on the agreement in 2012.

In 2014, care for the illegal immigrants cost SEK 88 million in the three metropolitan regions of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö for Sweden's taxpayers. Last year, that figure had more than tripled to SEK 270 million, Swedish Radio now reports.
Gilbert Tribo, liberal regional councilor in Skåne, still thinks that a very small part of the care money goes to illegal immigrants.
– It is a vanishingly small part of our budget, he says to Swedish Radio.
