AMD expands the RDNA-2 portfolio: The Radeon RX 6600 XT is the new entry-level solution and, according to AMD, is more speed than the Radeon RX 5700 XT and for a price of 379 US dollars GeForce RTX 3060 in rasterizer titles. To implement the 8 GB graphics card, AMD has launched a new GPU with Navi 23.
AMD has given the Radeon RX 6600 XT the goal of AAA games to be able to reproduce in Full HD with 60 FPS or more with full graphic details. Esports and casual games are also the target groups of the latest RDNA-2 graphics card, while higher resolutions such as WQHD should run well, but are more the territory of the faster offshoots.
More FPS than the RX 5700 XT & amp; RTX 3060 says AMD
AMD has created its own benchmarks for the Radeon RX 6600 XT, the test embargo of which is still to come. Depending on the game, the graphics card should offer 2.2 × to 2.5 × more speed than the GeForce GTX 1060, 1.4 × to 1.7 × more than the Radeon RX 5600 XT and an average of around 15 percent faster than the GeForce RTX 3060.
If these ratios are projected onto the graphics card benchmarks on ComputerBase, the performance comparisons with the Nvidia graphics cards indicate a performance between the GeForce RTX 2070 Super and the GeForce RTX 2080 Super, AMD's comparison with the Radeon RX 5600 XT even points to a performance at 2080 super level – the editors consider that a bit too optimistic.

AMD has a recommended retail price of 379 US dollars (before taxes) for the Radeon RX 6600 XT. There is not yet an official EIA for Germany. However, it should be 379 euros, which would be exactly 100 euros less than the Radeon RX 6700 XT. The Radeon RX 5700 XT cost 419 euros in the summer of 2019, the GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB costs 50 euros less. In retail, however, the RRP will not play a role anyway, the market price will be significantly higher.

Navi 23 is celebrating its desktop as the smallest RDNA-2 offshoot -Premiere
The Radeon RX 6600 XT is based with RDNA 2 on the same architecture as the Radeon RX 6900 XT, Radeon RX 6800 XT, Radeon RX 6800 and the Radeon RX 6700 XT, only the number of execution units and the memory volume are smaller, the technology is the same . After Navi 21 (RX 6800/6900) and Navi 22 (RX 6700 XT), the Radeon RX 6600 XT with Navi 23 is the third GPU in the RDNA-2 portfolio, which until now has only been available as a Radeon RX 6600M with less active shaders in the notebook.

Navi 23 consists of 11.1 billion transistors and is therefore much simpler than Navi 22 (17.2 billion), and accordingly the chip is a lot smaller at 237 mm². One reason for the massive reduction in complexity is the PCIe interface, because with 8 PCIe 4.0 lanes, AMD has halved the connection to the remaining PC components.
On the Radeon RX 6600 XT, all 32 compute units of the Navi-23-GPU are active, which corresponds to 2,048 FP32-ALUs. That is 8 CUs less than the Radeon RX 6700 XT, but four more than the mobile version. With a game clock of 2,359 MHz, even the smallest RDNA-2 offshoot offers a high GPU frequency, whereby the Radeon RX 6700 XT goes one better with 2,424 MHz. The maximum boost of 2589 MHz, on the other hand, is even slightly higher than in the larger model. The memory interface on the Radeon RX 6600 XT has a width of 128 bits (8 × 16-bit controller) compared to 192 bits and 256 bits of the larger models, so the memory expansion is automatically 8 GB of the GDDR6 type. Technically, 16 GB of memory would be possible, but AMD does not offer this.

A small infinity cache with much (less) bandwidth
In conjunction with the 16 Gbps memory, the new graphics card has a very low memory bandwidth of only 256 GB/s, which the Infinity Cache is supposed to compensate for. This has been massively shortened on the Radeon RX 6600 XT compared to the larger models, instead of 128 MB or 96 MB, it only comes to 32 MB, which, according to AMD, should still be sufficient for Full HD. In this resolution, the cache hit rate should be a little over 50 percent and thus be comparable to 128 MB in Ultra HD. In higher resolutions, the hit rate of the cache drops significantly compared to the larger models, so that the Radeon RX 6600 XT in WQHD will probably break in more than the Radeon RX 6700 XT – the test will clarify that later.
The Infinity Fabric, to which the Infinity Cache is connected, also works on Navi 23 with a base clock of 1.4 GHz and can, if necessary, clock up to 1.94 GHz. Since the interface from the cache is connected to the GDDR6 interface, when it is reduced to 128 bits, bandwidth from the Infinity Cache is also automatically lost. 8 64-bit controllers are still available, so that the cache can provide a maximum of just under 1 TB/s. So if the required data is in the Infinity Cache, it can make data available almost at exactly the same speed as a classic 512-bit interface with 16 Gbps GDDR6 memory. If this is not the case, the detour must be made via the much slower 128-bit interface.

160 watts are AMD specifications
AMD states a total board power of 160 watts for the Radeon RX 6600 XT, the TGP is 130 watts. Manufacturers can increase the power consumption with OC versions as usual. At least at 160 watts, a single 8-pin power plug is provided for operation. ComputerBase will deliver a test of this graphics card as soon as the embargo has fallen.
