“M1 MacBook has cracks in the screen”

The cracked screen issue affects both MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. It is striking that for the time being it only concerns M1 Macs. Of course, this processor has nothing to do with this, but it is possible that Apple has changed something in the production process of the screen.

The stories are popping up in the Apple Community, with the first case known to us in May. On Reddit we see that it was already complained about 8 months ago. It seems that there is no official Apple repair tool yet.

Some of the messages are from customers who went to the Apple Store with their broken screen. Most were told that they would have to pay hundreds of euros for a repair. Filing a claim is difficult, because it is difficult to prove that the damage was not caused yourself. The stories on the internet are similar: owners close their MacBook for a while and the screen is cracked the next time it is used.

Apple has not yet commented on this issue. If the company finds that there is indeed something wrong with the production process, or with some of the MacBooks produced, there will undoubtedly be a repair program for the MacBook. This could be the first repair program for the Macs with Apple Silicon. Previous MacBooks already had a keyboard and screen repair program running, but this didn't address cracks.
