The Apple Watch has numerous health functions that, for example, monitor the condition of your heart. It has a heart rate sensor and you can get irregular heart rhythm alerts. The Apple Watch also has an EKG app, which even has FDA “clearance” has gotten. Some medical functions must be reviewed by agencies before Apple can just add them and market them as a medical function. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, Apple is now looking for a so-called Regulatory Project Manager with a new vacancy.

More medical positions with approval on Apple Watch

The ECG app is now the only feature on the Apple Watch to receive such a medical rating. Other health functions are seen as a kind of wellness tool, such as the pulse oximeter. But with the posting of this vacancy it seems that more of similar medical positions are coming with approval.

In the description, Apple says that the manager in spé “leads projects requiring regulatory approval”. You will take charge of a team dedicated to health and wellness. Requirements for the position include more than five years of experience in regulatory affairs as well as a proven track record in this field.

The current ECG app is a so-called Class II product and in this new role you must also have experience working on such products. You must have experience with agencies in the US as well as internationally, for example in the EU. If you would like to read more about the vacancy, you can find it here.

‘Glucose measurement in the works for 2022’
Apple has been working for years on a way of measuring glucose in the Apple Watch. It now appears that this is planned for 2022. That could also coincide with this new feature within Apple. Since the vacancy has only just been posted, it looks like we shouldn't expect any innovative new health features for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 yet.
