– Take the camel bags now! Come on! exclaimed the coach of Nikias Arndt during the competition on Wednesday.

Arndt was then behind in the race: In front of him, the Algerian Azzedine Lagab and the Eritrean Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier rode, writes Junge Freiheit.

“Kameltreiber” on German is an established derogatory word for Arabs and the like.

The event was broadcast live on television by German ARD and commentator Florian Nass was quick to point out his outrage.

– I have to be completely honest say: If I really understood what he was shouting, it's really completely wrong. Order betrays me. Such a thing has no place in the sport, said Florian Nass.

The cyclist, Nikias Arndt, went out afterwards and distanced himself from the coach on Twitter.

Patrick Moster himself apologizes for that he said “in the heat of the moment”.

– I'm infinitely sorry, I can only apologize. I did not want to discredit anyone, says Moster to the news agency DPA.

The German Olympic Sports Federation DOSB announces after the incident that it stands for “respect, fair play and tolerance” and so on.
