With “audiobooks by Deezer”, the music streaming service offers a separate audiobook app so that they are easier to find and do not get lost in the mass of music titles. Today Deezer is expanding the audiobook app for Android with a new function called BookCatcher, which is supposed to make it even easier to find the audiobooks you want.

Photograph cover, to find audio book

BookCatcher is a function for smart book recognition and audio book search in the Android version of “Audiobooks by Deezer”. Users can simply photograph the cover of a book with the BookCatcher, whereupon the app searches for the appropriate audio book in the catalog. All audiobooks recognized with BookCatcher can then be played using the “Audiobooks by Deezer” app. Audiobooks found can also be added to your favorites using the heart symbol in order to play them back later and find them again quickly.

BookCatcher uses Google's ML -Kit

The BookCatcher function is available in the Android app from version 1.7.7, iOS users cannot currently use it. Users can activate the BookCatcher via the blue banner in the “Search” tab in the Deezer Audiobooks app. For this function, the app uses Google's ML kit to recognize text in images. In this way, the book title and author are attempted to be recognized on the basis of the book cover, so that users no longer have to enter them manually in the app.
