South Korean TV channel apologizes for “inappropriate” Olympic images

Media. A South Korean TV channel apologizes after allowing “inappropriate” images to represent different nations during the Olympics inauguration, reports RT.

It is Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) that has been criticized for its move during the inaugural parade at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.

Among other things, Italy was represented by a picture of a pizza and Norway by a smoked salmon.

Other images, however, were more controversial – among other things, Haiti was illustrated with a photograph of a wild street riot with burning and smoking car tires in the background. For Ukraine, a picture was shown of the completely wrecked and burnt out nuclear power plant in Chernobyl.

When the Swedish athletes entered the arena, a picture was shown of Europe with Sweden circled. Sweden was described as a “developed welfare state”. Here, however, a sign went wrong so that instead of “developed country” it said “soup on cow's blood” in Korean.

Many TV viewers reacted to the broadcast and complained, and now MBC has apologized for the images, which are described as “inappropriate.
