The company announced via the “Microsoft Tech Community” that the next Windows Enterprise LTSC, due in 2022, will be based on Windows 10 for the last time. From 2024, Windows 11 will take over for the first time as the basis for corporate customers who want long-term support.

Windows 11 will take over from 2024

Windows Enterprise LTSC 2022, which will be released next year, is based on Windows 10, while the successor Windows Enterprise LTSC 2024 planned for 2024 is based on its designated successor Windows 11 (report) for the first time. That goes from the 48-minute video contribution “Windows 11 and Windows 10 Servicing & amp; Lifecycle ”.

Only 5 years left Support from 2022

The variant Enterprise LTSC (“Long Term Servicing Channel”), which once ran under the name Enterprise LTSB (“Long Term Servicing Branch”), is a service model offered by Microsoft for corporate customers that is specially tailored to the needs of Company-specific installation without unnecessary extras combined with long-term support through long-term updates. The version promises a platform that will remain the same for users and administrators for years without the functional updates, which are usually disruptive in a professional environment and which are usually not required on such systems.

Windows 10 Client LTSC will change to a 5-year lifecycle, aligning with the changes to the next perpetual version of Office. This change addresses the needs of the same regulated and restricted scenarios and devices.

Microsoft

The current Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC is accompanied by 6 years of support, from the next edition in 2022 this period will only be five years. Only Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC for the Internet of Things will continue to receive 10 years of support.

Günter Born von Born's IT and Windows blog already had the shortened support period critically reported in February.

Windows, Enterprise LTSC, Server and Windows 365

Just a few days ago, Microsoft presented the Windows 365 cloud service for companies at the Inspire in-house exhibition, which will bring Windows 10 and Windows 11 to cloud PCs as operating systems as a service (“OSaaS”).

Windows 11, Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC as well as Windows 365 and the next Windows Server should form the Windows 11 portfolio, which can currently be tested as Insider Preview Build 22000.100.
