Anyone who wanted to get somewhere in Malmö today did the wisest thing in ignoring the bus card and taking the car instead. About 30 climate extremists from “Extinction rebellion” had decided to block bus traffic along Bergsgatan past Möllevångstorget.
While motorists could choose other roads, which were not blocked, the buses ended up in a long queue to try to get to the stop at the square. Even blue-light vehicles had difficulty getting around due to the extremists on the street.
Despite several statements from the police, the climate extremists refused to move. Instead, they started playing music and dancing in the middle of the street, seemingly completely unaware of the public transport passengers who could not arrive.
The climate blockade began at half past one in the afternoon. When the calls to move were not heeded, the police finally chose to arrest, remove and take care of a number of extremists. The demonstration was disbanded at half past four on Saturday afternoon, and it was then again possible for travelers to get along Bergsgatan.
Extinction rebellion is a left-wing extremist group close to the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.
