GM Super Cruise: Automated driving with a trailer and lane changes

Super Cruise is the name of the assistance system for automated driving according to Level 3 at General Motors on highways approved by the company in the USA and Canada. With Super Cruise, which was first introduced for the Cadillac brand in the current Escalade, the driver can permanently take their hands off the steering wheel and let the car take control. The system is based on maps, GPS, cameras and radar and draws the driver's attention into account.

Use Super Cruise with a trailer

General Motors wants that for the Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac CT4, Cadillac CT5, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Hummer EV Pickup and the GMC Sierra of the 2022 year Add three functions to the system during the first quarter. However, the combination of automated driving with a trailer and automated lane changes will not be possible.

As a third innovation, highways approved for Super Cruise will also be available for vehicles with an infotainment system with an integrated Google Maps are displayed and are included in the route selection for the driver as an option. This feature is primarily important for the Hummer EV, which uses Android Automotive OS (test).

By 2023, General Motors plans to offer Super Cruise in 22 models of all brands, including the completely new Cadillac Lyriq and the GMC Hummer SUV.
