Firefox 91 and Thunderbird 91: New pre-release versions of Mozilla invite you to test it

With the Firefox 91.0 browser and the Thunderbird 91.0 mail client, Mozilla has now released two new pre-release versions of its open source programs. Both new functions as well as bug fixes and optimizations are incorporated into the two new beta versions, which are also available from ComputerBase.

Firefox and Thunderbird in lockstep

Mozilla is well on the way to the final version 91 with both its free Firefox web browser and the Thunderbird mail client and has now released two pre-release versions for testing with Firefox 91.0 Beta 6 and Thunderbird 91.0 Beta 3. Both applications are available for Windows 7, 8 and 10 as well as macOS and Linux and also run under the new Windows 11, which can currently be tried out as an Insider Preview Build. Below are the two official release notes.

New

  • Firefox now automatically enables High Contrast Mode when & quot; Increase Contrast & quot; is checked on MacOS
  • Firefox now supports using logging into Microsoft, work and school sites using Windows SSO.
  • Locale added: Scots (sco)
  • The address bar now provides Switch to Tab results also in Private Browsing windows.
  • HTTPS-First Policy: Firefox Private Browsing windows now attempt to make all connections to websites secure, and falls back to insecure connections only when a website does not support it.
Fixed

  • The simplify page when printing feature is back! When printing, under More settings & gt; Format select the Simplified option when available to get a clutter-free page.

Mozilla Firefox 91.0 Beta 6 – Release Notes

The release notes of Mozilla Thunderbird 91.0 Beta 3, however, are a little more extensive.

New

  • Import/Export Thunderbird profiles (Mac/Linux only – see known issues at bottom)
  • Suggest replacements for discontinued/incompatible add-ons
  • Permissions to access calendar and address book are now requested when a GMail account is set up, so that calendar and address book can be accessed without having to re-authorize (see notes)
  • Calendar: Per-calendar and global notification settings (in addition to alerts set in events)
  • Tasks: Undo/Redo support for event and task creation and deletion
  • Mail: Context menu to expand mail list pills in the compose window to the list of recipients
  • Mail: Quick Find is now available in the multi-message (thread summary) view
  • Mail: Encrypt mail to BCC recipients (with warning that it will expose the recipients in the list of keys)

  • Calendar: UI improvements to calendar display
  • Mail: UI improvements to the message compose window
  • Mail: UI improvements to the message reader UI
  • Mail: AutoComplete from LDAP directories now searches by substring instead of left-side match

Mozilla Thunderbird 91.0 Beta 3

In addition, a total of 19 error corrections (fixes) have been incorporated into Mozilla Thunderbird 91.0 Beta 3 since the last pre-release version.
