Porsche has chosen BASF to build ultra-high performance car cells

The electrification project of Porsche also involves the development of new cells which the trademark will use inside the battery packs on very high performance cars and in the field of motorsport. Precisely for this reason, the automaker had created a joint venture with Customcells called Cellforce Group for the development and construction of these new cells. Now, an interesting news arrives that adds some new details of this project.

The joint venture has chosen German chemical giant BASF as an exclusive partner for the development of the new cells. Specifically, this company & agrave; will provide all the raw materials necessary to make the cells that the German manufacturer is developing and which will be characterized by a high density; energy and to be recharged at high power. The production will be; entrusted, of course, to Cellforce Group.

Its cell production plant is expected to go into operation in 2024 with capacity; initial of at least 100 MWh per year, just enough for 1,000 cars. But it is not; everything, because & eacute; the agreement goes beyond the mere supply of raw materials for the cells. Indeed, with a view to offering sustainable sourcing, production waste from the future Cellforce battery plant will be recycled at BASF's pilot plant in Schwarzheide, Germany.

The announcement of the understanding between Porche and BASF comes after the rumor last month that the Volkswagen Group was looking for more ties; close to the German chemical giant. It should be noted that the factory that will build this joint venture is not part of the Volkswagen Group's plan to build 6 Gigafactories in Europe. Initially, the new cells will remain available only to Porsche but if the work should give the desired results & egrave; possible that they can also be used by other brands of the German group that make very high performance models like Lamborghini.
