The EU Commission has given the official go-ahead for the offensive in the IT industry, which was approved in spring. With this, the EU should again have a 20 percent share in semiconductor production by 2030, with production stages ranging from 16 to 10 to 5 and 2 nm.

Strictly speaking there are two projects: the Alliance for Processors and Semiconductor technologies and the European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud. Together they have the goal of making Europe fit for the year 2030 and beyond. Quickly implementable solutions are hardly expected, rather the huge gaps that exist here and there should be filled.

For the big plans it takes many years of time and above all Money. So far, a sum of around 135 billion euros has been discussed.
