There are always games where copy protection is suspected of causing performance problems. This often turns out to be wrong in retrospect, but sometimes it is also right. Resident Evil Village is such a case and the developers have promised a patch with improvement. This has now been published.

Capcom speaks on Twitter of “Adjustments have been made to optimize the anti-piracy technology”, but more detailed information is missing. According to the wording, the publisher has improved the DRM protection of Resident Evil Village accordingly, but not simply removed it. According to initial reports, the performance problems should actually have gotten better after the update. It has not yet been clarified whether there should be no more difficulties at all.

The problems manifested themselves in an annoying stutter in the fight. This affects two key issues: Jerking usually occurs when opponents back away or hit the player. Breaking FPS limits makes the problem worse.

If the Lady Dimitrescu daughters step onto the scene, this phenomenon also persists. In the technology test for Resident Evil Village, the problems were not noticed negatively. This is due to the fact that these do not occur in all game situations and also vary in intensity from computer to computer. The high-end system used by the editorial team is helpful in reducing the jerking.

FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0 is on board

Aside from optimizing the DRM, the patch adds support for the still new upscaling technology FidelityFX Super Resolution (test), as announced by AMD. The technology competing with Nvidia's DLSS can be activated in the graphics menu and then works with the game's own TAA anti-aliasing. The classic options “Ultra Quality”, “Quality”, “Balanced” and “Performance” can be selected.

ComputerBase will be in Resident Evil Village in the coming FSR Days.
