For those who prefer to work up a sweat in a playful way instead of being motivated by a coach in a live training session or training video, Peloton will soon be bringing a new video game to the Peloton app. In this, the user steps on the pedals to steer a single, virtual, rolling bike through a course.
The game called Lanebreak is only available to owners of a Peloton Bike or Bike +, which is designed with a rotatable 24-inch display for additional fitness classes apart from the fitness bike, with a subscription to the Peloton app. By adjusting the resistance and the speed of rotation, the goals set in the game can be achieved and the rolling wheel can be controlled. In addition to selecting the difficulty, users can also add music to the game, choosing from different genres, and setting the duration of the exercise. It remains to be seen whether there will be other routes with different level designs in the final game. The route shown is reminiscent of the Rainbow Road space course from the now numerous Mario Kart games, albeit less colorful.
Three types of challenges
The user can choose from three different challenges. In “pickups” the user receives points as long as he drives in the correct lane. With “Stream”, on the other hand, you always have to drive in the right rhythm in order to be rewarded not only physically but also virtually. In “Breakers”, on the other hand, the performance of the user is measured based on the number of revolutions and the resistance.
Open beta is coming this year
Currently the game is not yet freely available, but after today's announcement, Peloton would like to release a public beta for members later this year. How to register for this beta and whether it will also be offered outside of the US, Peloton did not announce when Lanebreak was announced.
