Cyprus is one of the EU countries that has gone the furthest with coercive measures during the corona pandemic.

The government is now introducing requirements for “security passports” even to visit grocery stores and travel in public transport, and to be allowed to stay in a place where at least 20 people are gathered at all.

Such a passport is obtained if you have either been vaccinated, tested within the last 72 hours or have recovered from covid-19.

This has created great anger, and thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday night against the corona pass outside the presidential palace in Nicosia.

From there, a large number of protesters then went on to Sigma TV: s premises. According to Yle, about 2,500 people took part in the attack.

– A cowardly attack took place on Sunday night outside our headquarters. Our headquarters were attacked by a mob that threw fireworks and damaged our cars, Sigma-TV reported late on Sunday night.

On Monday, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades condemned the attack as a threat to media freedom.

The damage from the incident is described as extensive. Five people were arrested on Sunday night and another ten people are wanted according to the police, who published photos of the wanted persons, writes Cyprus Mail.
