Afghan deportations stopped – another 7,000 may stay

Domestic. The Swedish Migration Agency stops all deportations to Afghanistan. It will be announced by the authority on Friday.

The reason is that the Taliban of the offensive Afghanistan launched together with al-Qaeda to try to regain control of the country when American and other foreign troops are taken home. The security situation in the country is considered “difficult” and “difficult to assess”.

– The decision applies with immediate effect and applies until further notice, says the Swedish Migration Agency's legal director Carl Bexelius.

Sweden with expulsion or expulsion decision. Half of them have temporary residence permits, while the other half have active expulsion decisions pending enforcement. All those Afghans will thus be allowed to stay in Sweden for the time being.

Bexelius also points out that many Afghans have been allowed to stay in Sweden and that the Swedish Migration Board will continue to analyze developments in Afghanistan.
