The Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT from Corsair offers good workmanship and choice of materials, high-resolution audio even in wireless mode and Bluetooth support in the upper price segment. In terms of sound, the headset does not always do justice to the price, which also applies to the microphone.

Design and processing
For an RRP of 280 euros, potential buyers can expect a lot in terms of workmanship – and this is where the US peripheral manufacturer delivers, even if the new Virtuoso offspring looks very similar to the RGB Wireless SE (test). The new test candidate is kept simple, but this should not hide the high manufacturing quality. Like its little brother, the new high-end model is made entirely of metal, which is also reflected in its higher weight of 382 g.

The seat of the new headset is comfortable, even if the headband could have used a little more padding and, above all, elasticity. As a result, the XT feels a bit too loose, but it can just hold up on its head when moving quickly. The size adjustment is easy, but still stable, which means that the headset can be adjusted to any head shape without any problems.

The ear cups are also made of metal, which means that one of the problem areas is stable, and can be rotated 90 degrees in any direction, which means that the headset adapts well to every ear. In addition, the cables that connect the two 50 mm neodymium drivers are incorporated into the suspension and are therefore safely protected from damage.

Like the headband, the auricles would have looked a little more comfortable with memory foam padding, even if this also ensures good wearing comfort for hours. However, if the elasticity should decrease, the small thickness can take revenge in the end. The synthetic leather covers can also cause sensitive ears to sweat more after a long period of wear – at the required price, buyers can definitely expect a second set of ear cushions with a fabric cover.

Bulky connectors
The detachable microphone, which can be muted at any time via the connection and is also made of metal except for the gooseneck, is located under the left auricle. In addition, the headset has a number of controls on the device itself, which means a certain period of getting used to it with a lot of trial and error until all buttons and controls can be found straight away. The analog connection in the form of a 3.5 mm jack input and a USB-C port for digital cable operation are located directly behind the microphone. The latter is so tightly made in its entrance that some common USB cables simply cannot be plugged in there. With the supplied jack cable, however, you must ensure that it is correctly aligned – if it is connected the wrong way round, this has a sonic effect, as if a jack cable were not fully connected to the source device.

< p class = "p text-width"> The right auricle houses, among other things, the metallic volume control, the selector switch for radio and Bluetooth operation as well as the multifunction buttons for use on a Bluetooth-enabled source device.
Subtle lighting
Corsair has also given its new offspring LED lighting, which, however, is very discreet in the form of the logo attached to the side of the ear cups. The control takes place again via the iCUE software, which can be downloaded free of charge from Corsair – even if the colors displayed there do not always match the display on the headset. In the test, an orange on the monitor on the headset was more yellowish.

The already mentioned supplied USB and jack cables (including microphone mute and volume control) have a length of 1.90 m and 1.70 m respectively and are both surrounded by a protective fabric. The analog cable could have been a bit thicker, but like the USB counterpart, it should withstand one or the other rollover with the desk chair undamaged.

The supplied bag is a little prone to dust and hair, but at the same time ensures that the headset can be transported safely.
Connections and durations
There are many ways to transmit content via the XT. Starting with the slipstream technology used by Corsair for radio transmission in the 2.4 GHz band, Bluetooth including aptX HD and the two wired standards USB-C and 3.5 mm jack, the user receives a large selection of sources. A parallel operation of the wireless connections is also possible, with which the headset can be used on the home PC as well as the PlayStation 4 and 5 and calls can be taken from the smartphone at the same time.

The range when using the wireless dongle is specified by Corsair as 18 m, which is clearly too optimistic – in the test with a drywall between the transmitter and receiver, the connection broke off at less than 10 m. Lower-priced manufacturers were able to achieve significantly higher values in tests on a computer base at the same location. Especially nowadays, when audio and video conferences are the order of the day, a high range should be standard so that users can move away from their desks once in a while. When using Bluetooth, the distance is again too dependent on the source device, so that no general values can be shown here.
The battery performance, on the other hand, is more realistic. This is specified by the manufacturer as up to 15 hours, which was confirmed in the test at normal volume. To save electricity, the headset also has a saving function that switches the device off if it is inactive for too long.
