Dirt 5: Updates deliver tracks and PS5 features, a DLC cars

In the “Super Size Content Pack”, Codemasters delivers events and cars for Dirt 5 (test) in the form of a DLC. At the same time, there is also free content via patch. On the PlayStation 5, the arcade racing game will also be adapted to the possibilities of the platform.

Free and mandatory innovations

In the content pack, Codemasters delivers 27 events and four cars, the Bentley Continental GT Ice Racer, the Armada Rock Racer, the Rezvani Tank and the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Baja Concept. This includes new paintwork, two more sponsors and additional cosmetic extras. The pack is part of the Year One Pass, but can also be purchased individually.

At the same time, the free Parts Unknown Playgrounds Pack will be released on July 20th. The developers use this to add new objects from space and sci-fi for the playgrounds mode, which enables new arenas to be designed. This part of the game is to be promoted in a targeted manner through new challenges and the rewarding of the authors of the arenas. In addition, there are five vehicles for the game, more classic paint schemes and two new tracks.

Technical upgrades for the PS5

With the update, Sony's new game console comes with support for haptic and adaptive triggers of the DualSense gamepad. The triggers should then provide feedback on traction and the ground, among other things. 3D audio is also supported. Codemasters uses the technology to create a “dynamic audio area”, with the help of which, for example, loudspeakers or spectators at the edge of the track can be louder or quieter depending on their distance from the vehicle, explains the developer.

The announcements do not reveal how things will continue with Dirt 5 in the medium term. Even if the marketing of a Year One Edition leaves long-term content replenishment in the sense of a live service open as an option, it is questionable whether Codemasters will take this option. Dirt 5 is not in a similar position to the last grid: Although it only has a small number of players on the PC, the statistics from SteamCharts reveal, according to the developers on the GameOnDaily show, the Xbox Game Pass has brought a large number of new users to whom DLCs can be sold. A second year of further development can thus remain financially attractive.
