Battlefield 2042: Bots are a must, but cannon fodder

EA explained how cross play works in the new Battlefield. There is now more information about the AI soldiers. They are mandatory, but serve as cannon fodder to animate the big cards. You can therefore only escape them under certain circumstances.

Cross play is bundled in the new Battlefield based on the maximum number of players per map. Therefore PC, PlayStation 5 as well as Xbox Series S and X can play together, each allowing a maximum of 128 players. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One manage a maximum of 64 players and therefore stay among themselves. Their versions of the shooter basically offer the same features as the weather events, but the cards are tailored to a more compact size due to the lower density of players.

Progress in unlocking weapons and equipment as well as in-game purchases, however, applies across all game versions, which EA calls “cross progression and cross-commerce”.

Bots as fillers

EA has three roles in the game for bots. They fill the teams when players want to play cooperatively together against the computer or want some kind of single player mode. In addition, in multiplayer matches they fill the teams up to capacity so that the maps can be populated if not enough people can be put together.

In the “Conquest” and “Breakthrough” modes, there is no way to do without bots. They are used automatically until 128 actors are on the battlefield or an unspecified upper limit of AI soldiers is reached. “In general,” writes EA, the AI comrades should remain in the minority. Her place as a gap filler is also evident in her skills. The AI will not use specialist roles and special skills. She is also denied the wingsuit. They only manage to request and use vehicles or take goals, they should also be able to flank.
