After around two years of market presence, TerraMaster has given the entry-level NAS for the business segment with four hard drive bays a subtle refreshment that is different from usual. Neither the SoC nor the amount of RAM is adjusted in the F4-421, instead there is a changed configuration of interfaces.
In the first product revision from 2019, the 4-bay NAS in the manufacturer's typical silver housing offers a Celeron J3455 from Intel's Apollo Lake family with four cores and a base clock of 1.5 GHz (max.2.3 GHz ), which is flanked by 4 GB of soldered DDR3 RAM. This can be expanded to 8 GB via a free SO-DIMM slot.
The 2021 facelift of the F4-421 retains these characteristics, so the performance should be neither better nor worse. However, the manufacturer could have changed the product name for better differentiation. Because with the refresh there are also differences that are not immediately noticeable, but make the possible uses differently via changes to the interfaces. For example, one of the innovations is an HDMI output that has not yet been built into the F4-421. TerraMaster has halved the four LAN ports with gigabit connections to just two connections with link aggregation and failover support.

As a recommended retail price for the new F4- 421 calls TerraMaster $ 459.99 * (plus taxes). On Amazon, the NAS is already listed in the new revision for the RRP called, but it is not yet available. In the German price comparison, the older version of the F4-421 is hardly cheaper at around 446 euros.
