iPhone 13: Apple orders 90 million new smartphones

Apple is preparing the market launch of the “iPhone 13” for September after the situation among suppliers has eased. Bloomberg explains in detail which iPhones will roll off the production line at which manufacturers and forecasts 90 million units for this year. The innovations should be moderate.

In recent years, Apple has always planned with around 75 million new iPhones in the year of presentation, but this year the output from the manufacturers is to be reduced 20 percent can be increased. That speaks for a high expected demand for the new model, which will presumably be called “iPhone 13” and, like last year, for a 5.4-inch, two 6.1-inch and one 6.7-inch model is covered. The internally used code names of the new iPhone generation are D16, D17, D63 and D64.

Apple also benefits from the elimination of Huawei

Pegatron is said to have received the order for the production of the “iPhone 13 mini”, while Hon Hai Precision, better known as Foxconn, shared the order for the “iPhone 13” and “iPhone 13 Pro” with Luxshare and Pegatron. Foxconn is also said to be the primary manufacturer of the “iPhone 13 Pro Max”. For Asian suppliers and manufacturers, the launch of a new iPhone generation is a major challenge every year and is planned months in advance. The global shortage of chips should not affect the production of the new models, especially at TSMC for the production of A-chips, Apple, as the largest customer, has a corresponding position of power. The fact that Huawei is no longer allowed to have TSMC manufactured, which frees up capacities, is said to have been just as helpful.

A15 should have the same six cores work

Moderate upgrades in several areas are expected around the equipment of the “iPhone 13”. The “A15” processor is said to be a revised design of the A14 Bionic with the same six cores. It would be unusual for Apple not to launch new cores with a new generation of iPhone. The current design uses two performance and four efficiency cores (called Firestorm and Icestorm).

Smaller notch and ProMotion expected

The design is expected to be largely the current generation correspond, but the notch for Face ID and the front camera should be a bit smaller this year. After this changed feature was already recognizable on the basis of the first dummies, Bloomberg is now also confirming Apple's plan. At least one of the new models should also use an LTPO OLED display with IGZO and support a variable refresh rate. This should increase efficiency and responsiveness, which suggests a panel with 120 Hz alias ProMotion.

There should be further adjustments in the camera area, especially a revised video mode with an improved optical zoom. They also experimented with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the display, but this will not make it into this year's model.
