The cracks were first discovered by the film team behind the TV documentary “The find that changes everything”, which was broadcast on Discovery after all the responsible & shy Swedish media turned down last year. One of the cracks, which was supposed to be the largest, was documented in detail in the documentary.
But now the authorities also confirm that there are two cracks in the wreck. The cracks have been found during the “feasibility study” that Swedish and Estonian authorities are conducting at the wreck in order to be able to postpone a complete investigation of the hull and the taboo area on the inside of the bow ramp until next year or even later.
For In the Swedish part, the operation has been made possible through an amendment to the law on grave peace, which came into force on 1 July.
Within the framework of the feasibility study, data on the ship and bottom conditions will be collected using sonar and sonar methods. They will then be analyzed with the help of researchers from Stockholm University.
