TSMC and Foxconn: Tech giants supply Taiwan with COVID-19 vaccine

TSMC and Foxconn are using their size to supply Taiwan with ten million COVID-19 vaccine doses. It is difficult for Taiwan on the regular route due to the political situation and the state of affairs in China, so so far there have only been small donations from the USA and Japan Both industry giants were confirmed on Monday with respective mandatory announcements on the stock exchange, in which the manufacturers declare that they will each acquire five million vaccine doses from BionTech-Pfizer and donate them to the Taiwanese health authority.

Foxconn boss Terry Gou indicated that the vaccine would be delivered directly from Germany, which was not or hardly possible on a political level. Taiwan has so far got its vaccine via detours and the COVAX program. Large individual donations from the USA and Japan helped in the last few weeks, in which Taiwan had the highest number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Gou further stated that the leadership in China, however, did not oppose the purchase of Foxconn in Germany, the Chinese Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical will even take over the distribution. Ultimately, it is Taiwan's economic strength in a much sought-after area that is helping the country out of the crisis.
