Rumor: 'No Touch ID in upcoming Apple Watch'

Update July 12, 2021: Apple wouldn't plan to add Touch ID to the Apple Watch, says Mark Gurman. He says it would make sense to create a Touch ID button on the Apple Watch, but “don't see that happening anytime soon, maybe never”. According to an earlier rumor from The Verifier (see below), Apple is planning to introduce Touch ID into the Apple Watch Series 7 screen. It would be a shame if it didn't go ahead, because with only a faster processor, Apple can do very few people.

Below is our previous article from March 27, 2020.

New Apple Watch Series 6 rumors

Relatively little is known about the Apple Watch Series 6, except that it may contain a sensor to measure blood oxygen and that sleep functions finally seem to be coming. A new rumor adds to that. It comes from the YouTube channels iUpdate and The Verifier. Earlier this week they already spread rumors about the upcoming Apple TV update, now it's the Apple Watch's turn.

The most exciting thing is that Touch ID may be on the way for the Apple Watch. Apple is thinking of two solutions. With the Series 6 this is incorporated in the Digital Crown, but with the Series 7 the sensor could be built in under the screen. With Touch ID, you can unlock the Apple Watch without entering a PIN.

Furthermore, the upcoming model has a larger battery, intended to also be able to wear the Apple Watch at night. You no longer have to charge every night. A battery life of a few days might then be achievable.

‘watchOS 7 not for Series 2’

But first comes the digital WWDC, where we get the first functions watchOS 7. In it, Apple would like to add support for Wi-Fi 6. There would also be improvements for Siri.

But for people with an Apple Watch Series 2 and earlier, there is less good news: they may no longer receive an update. The new Apple Watch models will only be on the market in the fall and then we will only know what's in them. According to these new rumors, the design will not change.
