Orb X: Cooler Master brings GamePod on the trail of the throne

What Acer demonstrated with the Thronos in 2018, Cooler Master is now implementing with the Orb X in a similar way. The complete gaming or workplace with chair, table and monitor holder moves into a motorized pulpit.

Cooler Master describes the Orb X as a semi-open, immersive multi-purpose workstation for gamers and professionals , which is reminiscent of the aforementioned Acer Thronos in many ways.

The roof of the GamePod, including the monitor holder, as well as the integrated seat, table and footrest are motorized and initially make space when entering, in order to then enclose the player like in a cockpit. A memory function, for example, remembers the desired seating position. The monitor bracket supports either a single display with up to 49 inches or three 27-inch screens lying next to each other.

The table surface serves as an oversized mouse pad and is covered with fabric. A wireless charging station for the smartphone is integrated. A connection panel with USB sockets and headset connection as well as a touch remote control for the functions of the gaming pulpit are placed on the side.

The seat as well as the neckrest can be adjusted in height and angle. A lumbar support is provided. RGB-LED light strips, whose play of colors can be individually configured or shine in tune with the beat of the music, provide ambience. The latter is played over “surround speakers”, elsewhere there is talk of a 2.1 system.

The additionally required PC is inserted through an opening on the back of the Orb X. Details on compatibility, such as how big the PC can be, are not yet available. According to Cooler Master, the Orb X is “compatible with several different PC and monitor configurations and also offers the option of setting up a console for gaming functions”.

    Price still unknown

When and at what price the Orb X will be available, Cooler Master initially left it open. The competitor product from Acer provides at least a rough guide: The Thronos came onto the market around two years ago for 18,000 euros, but at this price it also provides “deep-impact vibration effects”, which Cooler Master lacks.
