Larger iMac M1 on the way
Last May, Bloomberg announced that Apple would temporarily stop using a larger Apple Silicon iMac to focus on the 24-inch M1 iMac. For many people it is still a while: the new iMac looks attractive and is faster than ever, but those who are used to a 27-inch screen often find the new model a bit too small. The new model is larger and replaces the current 27-inch Intel iMac, but the screen could be even slightly larger. There is already talk of 30-inch, although Gurman is still a bit vague when it comes to size and release date. The larger iMac could run on an M1X chip, an upgraded version of the current M1.
In addition, Apple is still developing the M2 chip, the second generation of Apple Silicon for the Mac. We will probably only see these in the course of 2022. If the larger iMac takes a long time to come, it could also contain an M2X chip, a chip that is aimed at higher performance.
Gurman also writes in his Power On newsletter that a new iPad mini is on the way, with a renewed design. This is planned for autumn 2021 and has thinner screen edges and resembles the iPad Air in appearance. There is no longer a home button. Leaked schematics show that the iPad mini 6 has the same dimensions as the current model, but with a larger screen area and possibly USB-C instead of Lightning. The speakers would also have been improved. Touch ID is incorporated into the power button.
