Domestic. A new wave of third-world illegal immigration is now threatening the EU via Belarus. That warning comes from Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, who accuses the Virus government of launching a “campaign” against the EU in this way.

Ingrida Simonyte tells German Bild that the situation has gotten worse since Belarus started letting in immigrants earlier in the summer.

– The last few weeks have been quite strained. At the beginning of July, the number of illegal immigrants who came to us in Lithuania was already higher than throughout June. And higher in June than in the entire period since January. So we have seen a rapid exponential increase lately, says Simonyte.

Now about 100 illegal immigrants are arrested every day as they cross the border into Lithuania.

A large proportion of immigrants come from Iraq and many probably from African countries, according to the Prime Minister. The common border between Belarus and Lithuania is about 700 kilometers long.

Ingrida Simonyte describes immigration as a “campaign organized by the Belarusian regime” aimed at Lithuania and the EU.

The influx started in early June after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko warned of retaliation against the EU if sanctions were imposed on Belarus by letting in immigrants.

– We stopped drugs and migrants. Now you can eat and catch them yourself, he said.
