The new docking station Apex is a typical connection box for peripherals that connects to the notebook or desktop PC via just one Thunderbolt connection, in this case the latest version Thunderbolt 4 (test). Ankers Apex provides the device connected via Thunderbolt 4 with twelve connections for peripherals for almost every application scenario. A connected notebook with few connections is not only expanded by many connections, but can also be charged with up to 90 watts via Thunderbolt 4. A second USB Type-C output, for example, can be used to charge a tablet or smartphone in parallel with up to 20 watts, so the dock's power supply unit is also 120 watts. A display with 8K resolution at a maximum of 30 Hz or with 4K resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate can be connected via the Thunderbolt 4 port outgoing on the back, a maximum of 15 watts of electrical power is available here.

With the better equipped docking station PowerExpand Elite (test), Anker offers a higher charging power of up to 180 watts, but only via the older Thunderbolt 3 connection standard.

According to the manufacturer, the Thunderbolt 4 Dock Anker Apex is fully compatible with devices with Windows 10 (from Intel Tiger Lake with Thunderbolt 4) and with MacBooks from macOS 11 (Big Sur), MacBooks with M1- However, the manufacturer excludes a chip. To date, Apple's Macs only offer Thunderbolt 3.
