The problem of recharging does not only concern electric cars but also battery-powered trucks which are starting to be more numerous. These vehicles must be able to have a dedicated refueling infrastructure if they are to rapidly push their diffusion to reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector. For this reason, Daimler, Volvo and Traton have announced that they intend to work together to build an infrastructure for charging heavy trucks and long-distance buses across Europe.

The common goal is accelerate the creation of new charging infrastructures to increase customer confidence and support the transformation of the transport sector. The agreement lays the groundwork for the creation of an equal joint venture that will begin & agrave; its activities in 2022. The companies in this project they will invest a total of 500 million euros which will be used to create at least 1,700 charging points close to highways and in important places for activities of these means of transport. All in 5 years from the creation of the joint venture.

LOOKING FOR NEW PARTNERS

A second goal is; to increase the number of planned charging points thanks to the arrival of new partners and any public funding. The future joint venture will have; based in Amsterdam. It is therefore an interesting project. The problem of expanding the charging network is been addressed more & ugrave; times by car manufacturers. Without a capillary infrastructure, in fact, it is very difficult for electric cars to spread rapidly. The problem is even more valid; for heavy vehicles that need even more dedicated infrastructures today; rare.

From a certain point of view, the agreement is reminiscent of the one that led to the birth of IONITY, a joint venture that is working on a fast-charging network across Europe for passenger cars.

< strong> Martin Daum , CEO of Daimler Truck said:

The common goal of European truck manufacturers is achieve neutrality climate by 2050. However, it is It is essential that the construction of the right infrastructure goes hand in hand with the putting into circulation of zero-emission trucks. Together with TRATON and Volvo, we are therefore very excited to take this step to establish a high-performance charging network across Europe.

Matthias Gr & uuml; ndler , CEO of the TRATON Group, added:

For TRATON & egrave; clear that the future of transport is; electric. There & ograve; calls for the rapid development of publicly accessible charging points, especially for long-distance heavy transport. We are now moving forward together with our partners Daimler Truck and Volvo to make this network a reality; the most & ugrave; quickly as possible. Now we take the first step to accelerate the transition to sustainable transport. The second step should be a strong EU commitment to the full development of a charging network throughout Europe.
