The 3G network was switched off in Germany, 2G, LTE and 5G are now taking over completely. ComputerBase took a closer look at this and explained what is changing in terms of technology and for customers in cellular networks. The article attracted a lot of attention from readers during the week.

The focus is on the major network operators Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica/O2. Anyone who has used 3G or UMTS up to now and whose mobile phone cannot do anything with the successors LTE or 5G will not suddenly find themselves in the rain with all three major operators. The old 2G standard remains active as an emergency solution.

Windows 96 instead of Windows 95b was the original plan

The retro article on the never-before-released Windows 96 operating system made it into second place. Windows 96 definitely existed as a potential successor to Windows 95, as a leak in the operating system has shown. Instead, Microsoft opted for Windows 95b at the time and then later for Windows 98 as the correct successor. Some features of the 98 edition can actually be found in the unfinished Windows 96 version.

EVGA now also with AMD mainboards

The actually Intel and Nvidia exclusive manufacturer EVGA has surprisingly announced a new mainboard of the Dark series in a short teaser video. For the first time for AMD's Ryzen processors. The dark boards are EVGA's high-end series, but the teaser does not reveal any further details. EVGA has since confirmed that two mainboards with an X570 chipset – or “X570S” as the marketing name for new passively cooled models – are planned for the third quarter of 2021. The announcement apparently surprised many readers, because the news without much content made it to the first place in the news that week.

The message in second place actually has hardly any content, but the topic itself interests many. These are Intel's upcoming Xe-HPG GPUs for gamers, most of which have been developed. The solution should be officially presented in late autumn, but Intel has not yet announced an exact date. Participants in events of the Odyssey Marketing Program in 2019 who still have their Odyssey card should shortly receive new merchandise after registering, which they should announce via social media channels in order to further promote expectations. And that's it for news about Xe HPG.

Next week there will be several new articles on the to-do list of the editorial team. Among other things, ComputerBase will take a closer look at the game performance of Windows 11 on an AMD and an Nvidia graphics card. Although it is still an early version of the operating system, there will be a first look into the future. And also PCIe 4.0 NVMe MP600 Core from Corsair with 2TB has to prove itself in the test, which wants to score with a low price.
