“The number of asylum seekers to Sweden has decreased by another 35 percent in the past year, and is now at the lowest level since 1996”, reads Morgan Johansson's controversial post on Twitter.

He links to an article in Sydsvenskan that “only 4,641 people” have sought asylum in Sweden during the first half of 2021.

But critics point out, among other things, that the S-minister does not mention anything about the strong effect that they closed borders have had to reduce asylum immigration during the corona pandemic.

In addition, the number of residence permits granted per year continues to count in the hundreds of thousands. This year up to and including May, 45,340 residence permits have been granted.

“Morgan Johansson (S) consistently mentions only asylum seekers, he does not mention the relatives, he does not mention that a large part of labor immigration is disguised asylum immigration, crime Morgan says or does not say anything about the fact that in addition to the figures above, Sweden receives 5,000 quota refugees a year. Morgan is lying “, writes the blog Petterssons.

Johansson also receives a response on Twitter from the moderate municipal politician Henrik Sundström.

“Granted residence permits as of last June: 45,000. At an annual rate more than last year”, he writes.

Morgan Johansson then goes on the counterattack:

“Here you count “So also students, highly qualified workers, EEA citizens, etc. Asylum seekers are only a small part. It is sad to see that you moderates are now so desperate in the debate that you shamelessly dribble with the numbers”, writes the S-minister.
