After a bit of back and forth, Humble Bundle has decided and will limit the donation amount for bundles from mid-July. However, the limit will be lower than before and will result indirectly from a lower limit.

On average, the minimum proportion of Humble Bundle is set at a value between 15 and 30 percent, the donation amount is limited to 70 to 85 percent of the purchase price, unless the publisher also requests a minimum share. However, there is no longer any mention of this in the current announcement.

Minimum values should be clearly shown, writes Humble, and publishers, platform operators and charitable organizations can also freely vary the proportions – within new limits. However, there will not be sliders for every bundle; 100 percent of the proceeds are to be donated for some offers.

The new variant differs significantly from the version presented in April, which instead of dynamic sliders only provided two fixed, preset variants for distributing the purchase price. The donation amount was 5 or 15 percent of the purchase price, the lion's share of the purchase price, either 80 or 85 percent, should go to the publisher of the games.

Changed market environment for justification

In addition, the new controls should “do even more Generate opportunities to support important causes ”. Humble Bundle does not make the connection with the announcement, it remains a pure feel-good phrase. The company justifies the change with the changed environment for game retailers. This must also adapt to Humble Bundle in order to be able to continue to offer games, books and software at low prices and to support charitable initiatives.

According to the company, a fixed operator share allows investors to “invest in more exciting content”. It would be conceivable that publishers would be able to sell articles with a sales guarantee. Better offers would also lead to a growing customer base and thus to higher donations overall, argues Humble.
