Kuo: 'Next iPhone SE will come with 5G and faster processor in early 2022'

Update June 23, 2021: Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says again that Apple is planning a new iPhone SE in the first half of 2022. Earlier in March, he made the same claim (see later in this article). Even now he says that Apple does not change much in the design of the iPhone SE 2022. That means that this model will probably get a home button, with a screen that is comparable to the current 4.7-inch iPhone SE.

The main improvements in the iPhone SE 2022, according to the analyst, are the arrival of 5G and an improved processor. Apple would like to market this device as the cheapest 5G iPhone ever. This is currently the iPhone 12 mini, which has a suggested retail price of €809. But we have seen this model more often on the shelves for a lower price in recent weeks. The current iPhone SE 2020 has a suggested retail price of approximately €490.

There were also rumors about a larger iPhone SE Plus in the past, but we haven't heard anything about that for a while.

There were rumors that the third-generation iPhone SE would appear as early as the first half of 2021, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Later rumors pointed to a much later introduction of a renewed entry-level model. Rumors about a larger iPhone SE Plus could also gradually go in the trash. As far as Ming-Chi Kuo is concerned, everything remains largely the same: no borderless screen or Touch ID in the power button, but a model that is largely the same as the one from 2020. The biggest innovations are support for 5G and a processor of a later generation. .

‘iPhone SE 2022 arrives with 5G and new chip’

The appearance remains the same as the current iPhone SE. Most other specifications also remain the same, such as the 4.7-inch screen from the iPhone 8 family. Apple released the current iPhone SE in April 2020, with the appearance derived from the iPhone 8, but with slightly newer internal components such as an A13 chip. This can also be found in the iPhone 11 family and ensures that the device can last for quite some time. The very first iPhone SE dates from 2016. Also read our previous review of the iPhone SE 2020, in which we described the device as an excellent entry-level model for anyone looking for an affordable iPhone.
