The rules for using electric scooters in Italy may soon change. In the first article it is clear where scooters will be able to circulate legally. Electric scooters will not be able to travel more than that. of 25 km/h on the road and at pi & ugrave; of 6 km/h in pedestrian areas. Electric scooters without or without fixed white or yellow front light and rear red reflectors and fixed red light, useful for visual signaling, as well as; speed regulator and a suitable braking system, cannot be used on the roads referred to in paragraph 1. Anyone who travels with an electric scooter in violation of the provisions of this paragraph is; subject to the administrative sanction of payment of a sum from 100 to 400 euros.

Article 4 concerns minors. Electric scooters can be driven from 14 years old as long as you have at least the category AM driving license and to use the helmet and the retro-reflective vest. RULES OF CONDUCT

The bill (article 5) also provides for specific rules of conduct for the use of electric scooters. It will be prohibited:

  • carrying a load;
  • push or tow a load or a vehicle;
  • be towed or towed by a vehicle;
  • drive the vehicle using the mobile phone or any other means of communication at the same time;
  • drive the vehicle using headphones or receiving devices or audio players at the same time;
  • drive the vehicle with an irregular and dangerous course in relation to the traffic context and to carry out abrupt maneuvers and stunts. >

In case of non-compliance you risk a fine from 83 to 332 euros plus; the stop of the vehicle. There are also specific provisions for those who drive after drinking alcohol, for those who are caught after taking drugs and in the event of an accident.

The drivers of electric scooters who drive after drinking alcoholic beverages and under the influence of these are punished with the administrative sanction of the payment of a sum from 168 to 678 euros, if a value corresponding to an alcohol level has been ascertained. between 0 and 0.5 grams per liter (g/l). In the event that the drivers, in the conditions referred to in the previous period, cause an accident, the penalties referred to in the same period are doubled. The administrative pecuniary sanction provided for in paragraph 2 follows the administrative detention of the vehicle for sixty days pursuant to article 214 of the aforementioned highway code. Drivers of electric scooters who drive after taking narcotic or psychotropic substances are punished with a fine ranging from € 1,500 to € 6,000 and arrest from six months to one year. The administrative pecuniary sanction provided for in paragraph 2 follows the administrative detention of the vehicle for sixty days pursuant to article 214 of the aforementioned highway code. Drivers of electric scooters, in the event of an accident, are obliged to stop and provide the necessary assistance to those who may have suffered damage. In the event of an accident involving people, things and animals related to the behavior of the driver of the electric scooter, the provisions of article 189 of the aforementioned highway code and the related administrative penalties apply, as far as compatible.

Article number 6 of the bill talks about parking management . It will be stopping and parking on the sidewalks is prohibited, unless otherwise specified. Municipalities will be required to identify special spaces reserved for the parking of electric scooters marked by appropriate signs.
