So-called hub monitors, which function as docking stations for notebooks with USB-C, Ethernet and KVM switch, are definitely in vogue. With the ThinkVision P34w-20, Lenovo presents a new variant with UWQHD resolution on 34 inches. The calibrated IPS display is slightly curved. Up to 100 watts are available via USB-C.

ThinkVision P34w-20 for working with width

With a 60 Hertz refresh rate and a response time of 4 to 6 ms, the ThinkVision P34w-20 is not a gaming monitor. Instead, Lenovo's ThinkVision series is primarily aimed at customers in the work environment, analogous to the ThinkPad notebooks. With 3,440 × 1,440 pixels in 21: 9 format, a large virtual work surface is created, especially in terms of width. The curvature of the IPS display with an effective color depth of 10 bits (8 bits + FRC) is very small with a radius of 3.8 meters by today's standards. Factory-set to a color difference of Delta E & lt; 2 calibrated, the monitor should cover 99 percent of sRGB. The information on brightness (300 cd/m²) and contrast (1,000: 1) are on the IPS standard level.

As a docking station for Notebooks

The equipment on the side of the connections can be described as superior, because with DisplayPort input and output, two HDMI sockets, three USB-A, one USB-C, Gigabit Ethernet and an audio output, it is versatile. The USB-C connection is supposed to supply a notebook with up to 100 watts of power and also transmits image signals (DisplayPort Alt Mode) and other data. If another system as well as a mouse and keyboard are connected, both computers can be operated via the integrated KVM switch with the same input devices. Network data can also be transferred via USB-C, so that in the best case no additional cables are required. Lenovo therefore speaks of a “one-cable connection solution”.

The exchangeable base allows a height adjustment of 150 mm as well as tilting and horizontal swiveling of the display. Stereo speakers are also integrated.

Price, specifications and availability

The ThinkVision P34w-20 is expected to be available from the fourth quarter of 2021 and will cost around 960 euros. With its properties, the newcomer is similar to the Dell C3422WE introduced at the beginning of the year, which also has a webcam and a microphone. Since the Dell monitor in the free online trade has now reached 800 euros, a similar price level is also conceivable later for the ThinkVision P34w-20.
